Unzip Files Online — Free ZIP Extractor
Unzip Files Online: open a ZIP file in your browser, browse its folders, preview files and download one, a selection or everything — even password-protected…
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Open a ZIP file right in your browser, see everything inside, and take out just the files you need — no WinZip, no app install, no upload. It works on phones and Chromebooks too, where unzipping is often awkward.
The same tool also opens RAR, 7z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ISO and CAB files, so you can drop in almost any archive.
Step by step
- Open the ZIP file: Click the upload area or drag the file in. The list of files appears in a second or two — even archives with thousands of entries.
- Enter the password if asked: For a protected ZIP, type the password and press Unlock. A wrong password is caught straight away so you can try again.
- Browse and preview: Click a folder to open it, or use Search file names. The eye icon previews images and text files without extracting everything.
- Extract: Use the download icon for a single file, tick boxes and press Download selected, or press Extract all as ZIP to save everything with its folders intact.
Handy for
Email attachments
Open the ZIP a colleague sent without installing anything, and save only the document you need.
Phones and Chromebooks
Extract files on devices where the built-in unzipper is limited or missing.
Checking before you extract
Look inside a download first — see file names and sizes before anything touches your disk.
Protected ZIPs
Open password-protected ZIPs (ZipCrypto or AES-256) when you have the password.
Good to know
Extract all as ZIP re-packs the contents into a clean ZIP — handy for converting a RAR or 7z into a ZIP that every computer opens.
Archives with thousands of files stay smooth — only the rows on screen are drawn.
To make a ZIP instead, use Create ZIP.
Questions
Is there a size limit?
Archives up to about 2 GB can be opened (the limit of the browser’s WebAssembly memory), as long as your device has the memory. Archives of a few hundred megabytes are fine on a typical laptop; very large ones may be slow on phones.
Can I open password-protected archives?
Password-protected ZIP files work — both the classic ZipCrypto and the stronger AES-256 encryption. Encrypted RAR and 7z archives can’t be opened in the browser, because the open-source reader doesn’t implement RAR or 7-Zip encryption; the tool tells you so instead of failing silently.
What about split archives like .part1.rar or .7z.001?
Multi-part archives need every part combined, which isn’t supported here. Join them on a computer with 7-Zip or WinRAR first.
Why are some files hidden?
Archives made on a Mac often contain __MACOSX folders, ._ files and .DS_Store — metadata that isn’t part of the real contents. They’re left out of the list and the count is shown.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and processed by your browser on your own device — nothing is sent to a server, logged or stored. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
