7z Extractor — Open 7z, TAR, GZ and Other Archives Online
Open 7-Zip, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ISO and CAB archives in the browser and extract their contents — no 7-Zip install needed.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Open 7-Zip (.7z) archives and the common Linux/Unix formats — .tar, .tar.gz/.tgz, .tar.bz2, .tar.xz, single .gz files — plus ISO and CAB images. Everything is decompressed in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Step by step
- Open the archive: Click the upload area or drag the file in. The list of files appears in a second or two — even archives with thousands of entries.
- Enter the password if asked: For a protected ZIP, type the password and press Unlock. A wrong password is caught straight away so you can try again.
- Browse and preview: Click a folder to open it, or use Search file names. The eye icon previews images and text files without extracting everything.
- Extract: Use the download icon for a single file, tick boxes and press Download selected, or press Extract all as ZIP to save everything with its folders intact.
Handy for
Software downloads
Unpack .tar.gz source bundles or .7z releases on Windows, Mac or a phone.
Backups and logs
Pull a single file out of a large TAR or GZ backup without extracting everything.
Disc images
Browse the files inside an ISO image and save the ones you need.
Format conversion
Turn a 7z or TAR into a ZIP that anyone can open.
Good to know
A single
.gzfile (not a tarball) is decompressed directly and shown as one file.Single
.bz2or.xzfiles that aren’t archives can’t be decompressed here —.tar.bz2and.tar.xzwork.Encrypted 7z archives can’t be opened in the browser; use 7-Zip for those.
Questions
Which formats are supported?
7z, ZIP, RAR, TAR (and .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.xz), GZ, ISO, CAB, CPIO, AR/DEB, RPM, XAR, LHA and more — everything the open-source libarchive library can read.
Can I open password-protected archives?
Password-protected ZIP files work — both the classic ZipCrypto and the stronger AES-256 encryption. Encrypted RAR and 7z archives can’t be opened in the browser, because the open-source reader doesn’t implement RAR or 7-Zip encryption; the tool tells you so instead of failing silently.
What about split archives like .part1.rar or .7z.001?
Multi-part archives need every part combined, which isn’t supported here. Join them on a computer with 7-Zip or WinRAR first.
Why are some files hidden?
Archives made on a Mac often contain __MACOSX folders, ._ files and .DS_Store — metadata that isn’t part of the real contents. They’re left out of the list and the count is shown.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and processed by your browser on your own device — nothing is sent to a server, logged or stored. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
