Count business days between two dates in the US, or add business days to a deadline, skipping weekends and the 11 federal holidays on their observed dates.
Federal agencies close on these days, so the count matches deadlines that say “business days” in federal rules and contracts. Many private employers give only six or so of them (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas); if your office is open on Columbus Day or Veterans Day, add those back from the list under the result.
Working days in a whole year, Monday to Friday with public holidays removed — 2026: 250 in United States · 2027: 249 in United States.
Step by step
- Keep United States selected: The United States is preselected — you can switch to any other country in the list.
- Enter the dates: For a count, pick the start and end dates and choose whether the end date counts. To find a deadline, switch to Add or subtract days and enter the number of working days.
- Set your week: Choose the weekend days (Saturday and Sunday by default) and type any extra days off — local holidays, a shutdown, leave — one per line.
- Check the holidays used: Under the result, every public holiday in the range is listed with whether it was a day off, on a weekend or counted as a working day.
Handy for
Shipping and filing deadlines
“Within 10 business days” from a Thursday before Thanksgiving lands a day later than a plain weekday count — the calculator shows which holiday moved it.
Project planning
Turn a working-day estimate into a finish date, or see how many working days are left in a quarter.
Leave and payroll
Count the working days in a leave request or a pay period, with the holidays of the United States left out.
Good to know
Plain calendar days instead? Use the Date Difference Calculator or Add Days to Date.
See the full list and print it with week numbers on the United States public holidays calendar.
Extra days off accept ranges: “2027-12-24 to 2027-12-31 Office closed”.
Questions
Do banks close on every federal holiday?
The Federal Reserve observes all eleven, but when a holiday falls on a Saturday the Fed stays open on the Friday before, so many banks do too. For settlement dates in those weeks, count that Friday as a business day. Holidays on a Sunday close banks on the Monday, as shown.
How many working days are there in a year in the United States?
Counting Monday to Friday and removing public holidays — 2026: 250 in United States · 2027: 249 in United States. Extra days off you add come on top.
Is the start date counted?
When counting between two dates, the start date is always included and the end date only if “Include the end date” is ticked. When adding working days, the start date itself is not counted.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The holiday rules and every calculation run in your browser, and the PDF, calendar file and CSV are made on your device. Nothing you type — dates, extra days off — leaves it.
