Codice Fiscale Calculator — Calculate, Check and Decode

Calculate the Italian codice fiscale from name, sex, birth date and place, check its control letter, or decode an existing code — all on your device.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Work out the Italian codice fiscale from surname, first name, sex, date and place of birth — for an Italian comune or, if you were born abroad, the foreign country — or paste an existing code to check its control letter and decode the birth date, sex and place.

The place search covers all 7,896 current comuni and foreign states from ISTAT’s official lists, and the calculation follows the official rules, including how omocodia codes swap digits for letters.

Step by step

  1. Choose a mode: Calculate a code from personal details, or Check or decode a code you already have.
  2. Enter the details: Surname and first name exactly as on your documents, sex, date of birth, and the comune or country of birth.
  3. Read the result: The 16-character code appears with a breakdown of what each part means. Copy it with one click.

Handy for

Moving to Italy

See what your code will probably look like before the Agenzia delle Entrate issues it.

Filling in forms

Check that a code typed on a contract, rental agreement or university form has the right control letter.

Decoding

Read the birth date, sex and place hidden in a code.

Good to know

  • Surnames with several parts (De Luca, D’Amico) are joined: spaces and apostrophes are ignored.

  • For comuni that were merged or abolished, type the old four-character code in the place-code box.

  • The code doesn’t record the century, so a decoded year can be 19xx or 20xx.

Questions

Is the calculated code official?

No. Only the Agenzia delle Entrate assigns codes. When two people would get the same code it changes some digits to letters (omocodia), so the official code can differ — use the one on your tessera sanitaria or certificate of attribution.

I was born abroad — what place do I use?

Choose your country of birth. Its code starts with Z (for example Z112 for Germany, Z404 for the United States).

How is the control letter worked out?

Characters in odd and even positions are converted with two official tables, added up, and the remainder after dividing by 26 gives a letter from A to Z.

Is anything I type sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser on your own device; nothing is uploaded or stored, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
