Korean Age Calculator — International, Counting and Year Age
Work out your international age (만 나이), traditional Korean counting age and year age from your date of birth, and see which one is used where.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Work out your international age (만 나이), traditional Korean counting age (세는 나이) and year age (연 나이) from your date of birth. Since 28 June 2023 South Korea uses international age in law and official documents, but counting age is still heard in conversation and year age is still used for a few rules.
Choose a different “age on” date to see what each age will be on a future date.
Step by step
- Enter your birthday: Pick your date of birth.
- Choose the date: Today is used by default; change it to see your age on another day.
- Read all three ages: International, counting and year age appear side by side, with where each is used.
Handy for
Travel and study
Understand why a Korean friend says they’re a year or two older than you think.
Forms
Use the right age on Korean documents — international age since 2023.
Good to know
Counting age goes up for everyone on 1 January, so a baby born on 31 December is 2 the next day.
Year age is simply the current year minus the birth year.
Questions
Is Korean age still used?
Not in law: since 28 June 2023 contracts, benefits and official documents use international age. Counting age survives in everyday speech, and year age is still used for things such as military service and buying alcohol or tobacco.
Why can counting age be two years more?
You are 1 at birth and gain a year every 1 January, so between 1 January and your birthday counting age is two more than international age.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser on your own device; nothing is uploaded or stored, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
