Count working days in New Zealand between two dates, or add them to a date, skipping weekends, public holidays and your region’s anniversary day.

Mondayised days count as days off: if Waitangi Day or Anzac Day lands on a weekend, the Monday after is the holiday for anyone who doesn’t normally work weekends, and the same applies to the New Year and Christmas pairs. Many statutes define a working day to exclude 25 December–2 January as well; add those days as extra days off if a deadline uses that definition.

Working days in a whole year, Monday to Friday with public holidays removed — 2026: 250 in New Zealand · 2027: 250 in New Zealand.

Step by step

  1. Choose New Zealand and your anniversary region: New Zealand is preselected; pick the anniversary region whose holidays apply where you work.
  2. Enter the dates: For a count, pick the start and end dates and choose whether the end date counts. To find a deadline, switch to Add or subtract days and enter the number of working days.
  3. Set your week: Choose the weekend days (Saturday and Sunday by default) and type any extra days off — local holidays, a shutdown, leave — one per line.
  4. Check the holidays used: Under the result, every public holiday in the range is listed with whether it was a day off, on a weekend or counted as a working day.

Questions

What is Mondayisation?

Since 2014, Waitangi Day and Anzac Day falling on a Saturday or Sunday are also observed on the following Monday for people who don’t usually work that day. New Year’s Day, 2 January, Christmas and Boxing Day have always moved this way.

How many working days are there in a year in New Zealand?

Counting Monday to Friday and removing public holidays — 2026: 250 in New Zealand · 2027: 250 in New Zealand. Extra days off you add come on top.

Is the start date counted?

When counting between two dates, the start date is always included and the end date only if “Include the end date” is ticked. When adding working days, the start date itself is not counted.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The holiday rules and every calculation run in your browser, and the PDF, calendar file and CSV are made on your device. Nothing you type — dates, extra days off — leaves it.
