VAT Calculator — Add or Remove VAT for Any Country
Add VAT to a net price or take it out of a gross one, with the current standard and reduced rates for 25 countries, or any rate you enter.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Add VAT to a net price, or work out how much VAT is inside a gross price, for 25 countries — the EU states most people trade with, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Israel and Japan, plus GST in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Canada (with every province’s GST, HST, PST or QST). Pick a country to get its current standard and reduced rates, or type any rate.
Every result shows the net amount, the tax and the gross amount in the country’s currency, and each country lists what its rates typically cover.
Step by step
- Pick the country: Choose a country — its rates appear as buttons — or choose Another country and type the rate.
- Enter the amount: Type the price. Commas and points are both accepted as the decimal mark.
- Add or take out: Choose Before VAT (add it) for a net price, or Including VAT (take it out) for a price that already contains the tax.
- Read and copy: Net, VAT and gross are shown together; use the copy buttons to paste them into an invoice or spreadsheet.
Handy for
Invoices
Turn a net fee into the gross amount to bill, or split a gross receipt into net and VAT for bookkeeping.
Shopping abroad
See how much of a price is VAT before claiming a tourist refund.
Price lists
Check that a shelf price at a reduced rate is right.
Good to know
To take VAT out of a gross price, divide by 1 + the rate — for 20% VAT, divide by 1.2. Taking 20% off the gross price is a common mistake and gives the wrong answer.
Need a bank-transfer QR code on your invoice too? See the EPC QR Code Generator or the Swiss QR-Bill Generator.
Rates change with budgets; each country page notes the latest changes we know of.
Questions
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 20%, £120 ÷ 1.2 = £100 net, so the VAT is £20. The calculator does this when you choose “Including VAT”.
Which rate applies to my product?
Each country page lists what its reduced rates typically cover, but the exact rate depends on the product code or service. Check with the tax authority or your accountant when in doubt.
Does it handle US sales tax?
Yes — use the Sales Tax Calculator and type your combined state and local rate.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser on your own device; nothing is uploaded or stored, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
