E-Invoice Viewer — XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Factur-X, Peppol, FatturaPA

Open XRechnung, ZUGFeRD/Factur-X PDFs, Peppol UBL and Italian FatturaPA (.xml or .p7m) invoices as a readable document and save them as PDF.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Open an electronic invoice and read it like an ordinary document. E-invoices are XML data meant for accounting software, so opening one in a browser or text editor shows a wall of tags. This viewer lays it out as a page with the seller and buyer, references, line items, VAT breakdown, totals and bank details — and lets you save that page as a PDF or print it.

It reads XRechnung (UBL and CII), ZUGFeRD 1.0 and 2.x and Factur-X PDFs (the XML is taken out of the PDF), Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 UBL invoices and credit notes (including Norway's EHF and the Dutch SI-UBL), and Italian FatturaPA files, plain .xml or signed .xml.p7m. Everything happens in your browser; the invoice is never uploaded.

Step by step

  1. Add the invoice: Drop the .xml, .pdf or .p7m file on the box, or choose it from your device. The format is recognised from the content, not from the file name.
  2. Read it: Check the parties and their VAT IDs, the references (order, contract, Leitweg-ID, CIG/CUP), the lines, the VAT breakdown, totals and payment details. A file that holds several invoices gets a tab for each.
  3. Look at the checks: Under Quick arithmetic checks the viewer adds up lines, VAT and totals and lists any differences. They help you spot mistakes; they are not a formal validation.
  4. Save or print: Download as PDF makes a readable copy, Print prints only the invoice, and Show XML shows the raw data. Files embedded in the invoice (timesheets, delivery notes, PDFs) can be downloaded one by one.

Handy for

Checking an incoming invoice

Read an XRechnung or Peppol invoice before you book or pay it, when your software only shows the raw file.

Small businesses in Germany

Since 1 January 2025 businesses in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices. Open them here without installing anything.

Sharing and filing

Make a PDF copy for a colleague, your tax adviser or your records, next to the original file.

ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs

See the machine-readable data inside a hybrid PDF and compare it with the pages you see.

Italian invoices

Read a FatturaPA copy from your accountant or the SDI, including signed .p7m files.

Good to know

  • Codes are translated into words: unit codes (C62 → unit, HUR → hour), VAT categories (S, Z, E, AE, K…), payment means (58 → SEPA credit transfer) and FatturaPA codes (TD01, N2.2, MP05…). Unknown codes are shown as they are.

  • The quick checks allow a cent of rounding difference. A difference flagged there is worth asking the seller about, but it is not proof the invoice is invalid.

  • Signed .p7m files are unwrapped without checking the signature. Use your signature software if you need to confirm who signed.

  • Links inside an invoice (external attachments) are shown as text and never opened.

  • Want the raw XML tidied up instead? Try the XML Formatter. To check the bank details, use the IBAN Validator.

Questions

What's the difference between XRechnung, ZUGFeRD and Factur-X?

All three follow the European e-invoice standard EN 16931. XRechnung is the German specification and comes as pure XML in UBL or CII syntax. ZUGFeRD (Germany) and Factur-X (France) — the same format since ZUGFeRD 2.1 — are PDFs with the invoice data attached as CII XML, so people can read the PDF and software can read the XML.

Which files can it open?

UBL 2.1 Invoice and CreditNote (Peppol BIS 3, XRechnung UBL, EHF, SI-UBL), UN/CEFACT CII CrossIndustryInvoice (ZUGFeRD 2.x, Factur-X, XRechnung CII), ZUGFeRD 1.0 CrossIndustryDocument, PDFs with one of these attached, and FatturaPA 1.2 as .xml or .p7m. Peppol files wrapped in a StandardBusinessDocument envelope work too.

My PDF says it has no embedded invoice XML. Why?

It's most likely an ordinary PDF invoice, not a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X one. The viewer looks at every XML file attached to the PDF; if none of them is an invoice, there is no structured data to show — open it in the PDF Viewer instead.

Does it validate the invoice?

No. The quick checks only add up the figures in the file (quantity × price, the line total, VAT per rate, the grand total and amount due) and point out differences. They are not a formal EN 16931 or Schematron validation and don't check business rules, code lists or the schema — use your software's or the official validator for that.

Is the PDF I download a valid invoice?

It's a readable copy for checking, forwarding and filing alongside the original. For an e-invoice, the electronic file itself is the invoice, so keep the original XML (or ZUGFeRD/Factur-X PDF, or .p7m) as you received it.

Is my invoice uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and laid out by your browser on your own device — nothing is sent to a server, and the PDF copy is made on your device too. That matters for invoices, which carry bank details, prices and customer names.
