Swiss public holidays by canton — Zurich, Bern, Basel-Stadt, Geneva, Vaud and Ticino — for any year, with ISO week numbers and a printable PDF calendar.

Only the National Day on 1 August is a federal public holiday. The cantons set the others: Zurich and Bern add 2 January (Berchtoldstag) and St Stephen’s Day, Geneva has the Jeûne genevois in September and the Restoration of the Republic on 31 December, Vaud the Monday after the Federal Fast, and Catholic Ticino the longest list, from Epiphany to the Immaculate Conception.

Holidays per year, with how many fall on a weekday — 2026: Zurich 10 (8 on weekdays), Geneva 9 (8 on weekdays), Ticino 15 (11 on weekdays) · 2027: Zurich 10 (5 on weekdays), Geneva 9 (7 on weekdays), Ticino 15 (10 on weekdays).

Step by step

  1. Pick the year: Use the arrows or type any year from 1990 to 2100; the list for Switzerland updates as you type.
  2. Choose your canton: “All cantons” shows every regional holiday tagged with where it applies; pick one canton to see only its days.
  3. Print the calendar: Choose the whole year on one page or a month per page, A4 or Letter, and weeks starting Monday or Sunday, then click Download PDF calendar.
  4. Add it to your calendar: Calendar file (.ics) imports the holidays as all-day events into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar; Spreadsheet (.csv) opens in Excel or Numbers.

Good to know

  • Only 1 August is a federal public holiday. Cantons set up to eight more, so the list differs from canton to canton; New Year’s Day, Ascension and Christmas are observed everywhere.

  • Six cantons are modelled here. For other cantons, choose the national days and add your canton’s holidays as extra days off.

  • Count the days between two dates, minus these holidays, with the Switzerland working days calculator.

  • Want photos and your own events on a calendar? Use the Calendar Maker.

Questions

Is Labour Day a holiday in Switzerland?

Only in some cantons — of those here, Zurich, Basel-Stadt and Ticino. Elsewhere 1 May is a normal working day.

How far ahead and back does the Switzerland calendar go?

Any year from 1990 to 2100, worked out from the holiday rules — fixed dates, Easter, nth weekdays and the substitution rules — with known one-off holidays and start and end years applied. Dates a government proclaims each year can change, so check official sources for future years.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The holiday rules and every calculation run in your browser, and the PDF, calendar file and CSV are made on your device. Nothing you type — dates, extra days off — leaves it.
