Icelandic public holidays for any year — from the First Day of Summer in April to Commerce Day in August — with week numbers and a printable PDF calendar.

Iceland has 16 holidays. Besides the Easter and Whitsun days it has the First Day of Summer (the first Thursday after 18 April), Labour Day, the National Day on 17 June and Commerce Day (Frídagur verslunarmanna) on the first Monday of August; Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are holidays only from 1 pm.

Holidays per year, with how many fall on a weekday — 2026: Iceland 16 (11 on weekdays) · 2027: Iceland 16 (9 on weekdays).

Step by step

  1. Pick the year: Use the arrows or type any year from 1990 to 2100; the list for Iceland updates as you type.
  2. Read the list: Each row shows the date, weekday, ISO week, the English and local name, and tags for substitute days or days that aren’t a general day off.
  3. Print the calendar: Choose the whole year on one page or a month per page, A4 or Letter, and weeks starting Monday or Sunday, then click Download PDF calendar.
  4. Add it to your calendar: Calendar file (.ics) imports the holidays as all-day events into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar; Spreadsheet (.csv) opens in Excel or Numbers.

Good to know

  • Iceland has 16 public holidays, including the First Day of Summer (a Thursday in late April) and Commerce Day on the first Monday of August.

  • Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are holidays only from 1 pm, so they are listed but not counted as full days off. Holidays are not moved.

Questions

When is the First Day of Summer?

Sumardagurinn fyrsti is the first Thursday after 18 April, between 19 and 25 April — 23 April in 2026, 22 April in 2027.

How far ahead and back does the Iceland calendar go?

Any year from 1990 to 2100, worked out from the holiday rules — fixed dates, Easter, nth weekdays and the substitution rules — with known one-off holidays and start and end years applied. Dates a government proclaims each year can change, so check official sources for future years.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The holiday rules and every calculation run in your browser, and the PDF, calendar file and CSV are made on your device. Nothing you type — dates, extra days off — leaves it.
