Cut Scanned Book Spreads into Single Pages
Cut every page into left and right or top and bottom halves, so scanned book spreads become single pages.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Cut every page into two: left and right halves for scanned book spreads, or top and bottom halves for sheets printed two-up. Each half becomes its own page, so a 20-page scan of open books becomes a 40-page document you can read one page at a time.
Step by step
- Upload the PDF: Typically a scan where each page shows two facing book pages.
- Choose the direction: Left | Right (book spreads) cuts vertically; Top / Bottom cuts horizontally.
- Split: Click Split Pages in Half. The result downloads as one PDF with twice the pages.
- Tidy up: Trim uneven margins with Trim & Page Size or reorder pages in Reorder Pages.
Handy for
Scanned books
Turn flatbed scans of open books into single pages for reading on a phone.
Two-up handouts
Separate slides printed two per sheet.
Booklets
Split imposed booklet spreads back into individual pages.
Tickets and vouchers
Divide sheets holding two tickets into one per page.
Good to know
The cut is exactly in the middle. If your spreads are off-centre, crop the pages first so the gutter sits in the middle.
If halves come out in the wrong order (right before left), fix the order in Reorder Pages.
Pages with a built-in rotation are split the way they appear on screen, and each half keeps that rotation.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the result is created on your device.
Does the text stay selectable?
Yes. Each half is the original page content clipped to that area — nothing is converted to an image.
Can I split into thirds or quarters?
Not with this tool; it always cuts each page into two.
Are links and comments kept?
No. Interactive annotations are not carried over to the new half pages.
