Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are working days by law, although many companies close for half a day — add them as extra days off if yours does. Bridge days (Brückentage) such as the Friday after Ascension are ordinary working days too.
Working days in a whole year, Monday to Friday with public holidays removed — 2026: 252 in Bavaria, 254 in Berlin, 253 in North Rhine-Westphalia, 254 in Hamburg · 2027: 253 in Bavaria, 255 in Berlin, 254 in North Rhine-Westphalia, 256 in Hamburg.
Step by step
- Choose Germany and your state: Germany is preselected; pick the state whose holidays apply where you work.
- Enter the dates: For a count, pick the start and end dates and choose whether the end date counts. To find a deadline, switch to Add or subtract days and enter the number of working days.
- Set your week: Choose the weekend days (Saturday and Sunday by default) and type any extra days off — local holidays, a shutdown, leave — one per line.
- Check the holidays used: Under the result, every public holiday in the range is listed with whether it was a day off, on a weekend or counted as a working day.
Handy for
Fristen and delivery times
Turn “10 Werktage” in a contract into a date for the right state; a Munich deadline can fall a day later than a Hamburg one.
Project planning
Turn a working-day estimate into a finish date, or see how many working days are left in a quarter.
Leave and payroll
Count the working days in a leave request or a pay period, with the holidays of Germany left out.
Good to know
Plain calendar days instead? Use the Date Difference Calculator or Add Days to Date.
See the full list and print it with week numbers on the Germany public holidays calendar.
Extra days off accept ranges: “2027-12-24 to 2027-12-31 Office closed”.
Questions
Do the holidays of my home state or my work state apply?
Those of the place where you work. Someone living in Bavaria and working in Baden-Württemberg follows Baden-Württemberg’s Feiertage.
How many working days are there in a year in Germany?
Counting Monday to Friday and removing public holidays — 2026: 252 in Bavaria, 254 in Berlin, 253 in North Rhine-Westphalia, 254 in Hamburg · 2027: 253 in Bavaria, 255 in Berlin, 254 in North Rhine-Westphalia, 256 in Hamburg. Extra days off you add come on top.
Is the start date counted?
When counting between two dates, the start date is always included and the end date only if “Include the end date” is ticked. When adding working days, the start date itself is not counted.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The holiday rules and every calculation run in your browser, and the PDF, calendar file and CSV are made on your device. Nothing you type — dates, extra days off — leaves it.
