Questions

How do I remove VAT from a price in Austria?

Divide the gross price by 1.2 (1 + 20%). The difference between the two is the VAT.

Which VAT rate applies?

20%: most goods and services; 13%: plants, cultural events, some passenger flights; 10%: food, books, accommodation, restaurant food, medicines; 4.9%: selected staple foods listed in annex 3 ustg. The exact rate depends on the product or service, so check with the tax authority when unsure.

Is anything I type sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser on your own device; nothing is uploaded or stored, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
