Text to Binary Converter — Binary, Hex and ASCII Translator
Convert text to binary, hexadecimal, octal or ASCII codes and back again, with full UTF-8 support. Free, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Convert text into Binary, Hexadecimal, Octal or Decimal (ASCII codes) — and back again. Text is encoded as UTF-8, so accented letters, Hindi and emoji work too (they simply use more than one byte). When decoding, values can be separated by spaces, commas or new lines, or given as one continuous string.
Step by step
- Choose a direction: Under Direction, pick Text → … to encode or … → Text to decode.
- Choose a number system: Pick Binary, Hexadecimal, Octal or Decimal (ASCII codes).
- Enter your input: Type text, or paste the codes to decode. Errors (like a “2” in binary) are explained below the box.
- Copy: Click Copy or Download on the result.
Handy for
Learning
See how computers store letters as numbers.
Puzzles
Decode binary or hex messages in games and challenges.
Debugging
Inspect the exact bytes of a string.
Fun messages
Write a message in binary.
Good to know
Tick Add 0b / 0x / 0o prefix when encoding if you need programming-style prefixes.
Each value represents one byte (0–255). Multi-byte characters like “é” become two values.
Questions
Why does “é” give two binary numbers?
UTF-8 stores characters outside basic English as two to four bytes, and each byte is shown separately.
Can I paste binary without spaces?
Yes — a continuous string is split into 8-digit bytes automatically (2 digits for hex, 3 for octal).
Is this the same as converting a number to binary?
No — this converts text characters. To convert numbers between bases, use the Number Base Converter in Developer Tools.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything is processed by your browser on your own device — nothing you type or upload is sent to a server, so it is safe to use with private notes, drafts and work documents.
