Take the Password off a PDF You Can Open
Enter the password you know and save a copy of the PDF that opens without one, with text and links kept.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Save a copy of a password-protected PDF that opens without a password. Enter the password once; the file is decrypted in your browser and written out as a normal PDF with all its text, links and image quality intact.
This is not a password cracker — you need to know the password.
Step by step
- Upload the PDF: A password box appears if the file needs one.
- Enter the password: Type it and click Open. If it's wrong, you'll be asked again.
- Remove it: Click Remove Password.
- Store the copy safely: The "-unlocked" copy can be opened by anyone who has it.
Handy for
Bank and card statements
Keep statements in an archive without typing the password each time.
Payslips and tax forms
Hand documents to an accountant who can't open protected files.
Batch processing
Other tools and apps often can't work with encrypted PDFs.
Sharing with family
Share a document without also sharing a password.
Good to know
Statement passwords are often a combination of your name and date of birth — check the email the statement came with.
Bookmarks, form fields, links and attachments are kept in the copy.
Want to re-protect it with a password you choose? Use Add Password.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the result is created on your device.
I forgot the password. Can you recover it?
No. The tool needs the correct password to decrypt the file.
Which encryption types are supported?
Standard PDF password encryption as produced by common PDF software. If a file uses an unusual security handler (for example certificate-based encryption), it can't be opened here.
Will the quality change?
No. Only the encryption is removed; text stays selectable and images are untouched.
