GIF to MP4 Converter — Free, No Upload

Convert animated GIFs into small MP4 or WebM videos that can be shared anywhere. Free, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Convert an animated GIF into an MP4 or WebM video. Every frame is decoded with its original timing and the result is usually many times smaller than the GIF. Transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose, and you can repeat the animation to make a longer clip.

Step by step

  1. Add a GIF: Drop an animated GIF onto the upload area.
  2. Pick a format: Choose MP4 (plays everywhere) or WebM.
  3. Repeat it (optional): Videos don't loop on their own, so use Play the animation to repeat it 2, 3, 5 or 10 times.
  4. Choose a background: Pick the colour that shows through transparent parts of the GIF.
  5. Convert: Click Convert to MP4 (or WebM). The video downloads and plays in a preview.

Handy for

Smaller files

Replace heavy GIFs on a website with lightweight video.

Social posts

Upload to platforms that accept video but not GIF.

Presentations

Use a video file where GIF playback is unreliable.

Editing

Bring an animation into a video editor.

Good to know

  • Odd GIF dimensions are rounded to even numbers, as video encoders require.

  • To go the other way, use Video to GIF.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read, decoded and re-encoded inside your browser using its built-in WebCodecs encoders. Nothing is sent to a server, so private recordings stay on your device.

Are the frame timings kept?

Yes. Each frame keeps its own delay. As browsers do, delays under 20 ms are treated as 100 ms.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari (17 or newer) work best. Firefox can read most files but may lack some encoders, such as H.264 — if a format isn't available, the tool says so before you start. Phones work too, but long or 4K videos can run out of memory.
