Resize Video — Change Resolution & Aspect Ratio

Change a video's resolution or reshape it to 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 with bars, cropping or stretching.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Change a video's resolution, or reshape it for a platform. Scale keeps the original shape at a height from 240p to 2160p. 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5 presets produce 1080-pixel-wide or tall frames, and you choose whether to fit the picture with bars, fill the frame by cropping the edges, or stretch it. You can also type a custom size.

Step by step

  1. Add your video: Drop it onto the upload area. Its current size is shown, with the new size below the options.
  2. Choose a shape: Pick Scale, a ratio preset or Custom size under Shape.
  3. Set the size: For Scale, pick a height. For Custom, type width and height in pixels.
  4. Choose a fit: For presets and custom sizes, choose Fit (add bars), Fill (crop edges) or Stretch.
  5. Resize: Click Resize Video. The result is MP4 (or WebM if your original was WebM).

Handy for

Vertical video

Turn landscape footage into 9:16 for short-form platforms.

Square posts

Make a 1:1 version for feeds.

Smaller files

Downscale 4K to 1080p or 720p for easier sharing.

Consistent sizes

Bring clips to the same resolution before merging them.

Good to know

  • Fill (crop edges) keeps the frame full but cuts off the sides — keep the subject centred.

  • Scaling up adds pixels but not detail.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read, decoded and re-encoded inside your browser using its built-in WebCodecs encoders. Nothing is sent to a server, so private recordings stay on your device.

Will the audio be kept?

Yes — the soundtrack is carried over unchanged or re-encoded as needed for the output format.

Which file types can I use?

MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV and MPEG-TS videos. Older formats such as AVI, WMV and FLV can't be read in the browser — you'll see a clear message if you try one.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari (17 or newer) work best. Firefox can read most files but may lack some encoders, such as H.264 — if a format isn't available, the tool says so before you start. Phones work too, but long or 4K videos can run out of memory.
