Edit PDF Text, Add Notes and Sign — One Editor

Retype lines of text in a matching style, add text boxes, sign and mark up pages, all inside your browser.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Click a line of text in a PDF and retype it, add new text boxes, sign, and mark up pages — all in your browser. The editor draws your changes onto the original pages and leaves everything else in the file untouched.

When you edit existing text, the original line is covered with a patch in the page's background colour and your new text is drawn on the same baseline, in a matching font style, size and colour. The original is covered, not erased: it can still be found by copy or search. For anything confidential, use Redact PDF.

Step by step

  1. Upload the PDF: Pages appear one under another; use Zoom in and Zoom out to get comfortable.
  2. Edit text: Choose Edit existing text and click a line. Type your change, then click outside the box.
  3. Add content: Use Add text, Signature, Image, Rectangle, Ellipse, Line, Arrow, Highlight, Whiteout, Tick, Cross or Date stamp.
  4. Adjust: With Select & move, drag items into place, resize them with the corner handle, and change font, size and colour in the toolbar.
  5. Save: Click Save PDF. Undo and redo work with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z; Delete removes the selected item.

Handy for

Fixing a typo

Correct a name, date or amount without the original file.

Signing

Make a signature (drawn, typed or from a photo), then drag it to where it belongs.

Filling paper-style forms

Type into forms that have no fillable fields, and tick boxes.

Review

Highlight passages and add arrows and notes before sending a document back.

Good to know

  • Sign on white paper and use Upload photo — the paper background is removed automatically. Signatures you create are offered again for the rest of the session.

  • Scanned pages have no editable text. Use Whiteout to cover the old words and Add text on top.

  • Rotated or vertical text can't be edited in place — cover it with Whiteout and add a text box.

  • Fonts available for new text are Sans (Helvetica), Serif (Times) and Mono (Courier); Greek, Cyrillic and other scripts use embedded Noto Sans.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the result is created on your device.

Is the old text really gone after I edit it?

No. It is hidden under a patch but still in the file and can be found by search or copy. Use Redact PDF to remove text permanently.

Will my edits use the PDF's original font?

The style is matched (serif, sans or mono, bold, italic) using standard fonts. The exact original typeface isn't reused, so very distinctive fonts may look slightly different.

Is a drawn signature legally binding?

In many places an electronic signature is acceptable for everyday agreements, but rules vary. It is not a certificate-based digital signature.

Does the rest of the PDF change?

No. Your changes are drawn on top of the original pages; nothing else is re-rendered.
