Exam Photo and Signature Size: SSC, UPSC, NEET, Bank Forms

To get your exam photo and signature accepted first time, open Exam Photo & Signature Resizer, pick your exam under Exam / portal preset, compare the sizes with your official notification, then upload both images and click Resize Photo & Signature. You get two JPGs at the exact pixel size and inside the KB range. Everything is processed in your browser, so your photo and signature are never uploaded anywhere except the exam portal itself.

The presets below reflect specifications published by the exam bodies when the tool was last updated. Rules change between notifications, so treat them as a starting point and always check the current notification for your exam. Every value in the tool can be edited.

What size should the photo and signature be for SSC, UPSC, NEET and bank exams?

These are the values built into each preset. Sizes in millimetres are converted at 200 DPI.

  • SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD…): photo 35×45 mm (276×354 px), 20–50 KB; signature 40×20 mm (315×157 px), 10–20 KB. The preset carries a note that SSC may ask for a live photo captured in its own app instead of an upload.
  • UPSC (CSE, NDA, CDS…): photo 600×600 px, 20–300 KB; signature 600×300 px, 20–300 KB. The preset notes that UPSC accepts 350–1000 px on each side.
  • IBPS (PO, Clerk, RRB) and SBI (PO, Clerk): photo 200×230 px, 20–50 KB; signature 140×60 px, 10–20 KB.
  • NTA (NEET, JEE Main, CUET): photo 35×45 mm (276×354 px), 10–200 KB; signature 35×15 mm (276×118 px), 4–30 KB.
  • RRB (NTPC, Group D, ALP): photo 35×45 mm (276×354 px), 30–70 KB; signature 50×20 mm (394×157 px), 30–70 KB. RRB requirements vary by recruitment cycle, so double-check these.
  • GATE: photo 480×640 px, 5–200 KB; signature 560×240 px, 5–150 KB. GATE asks for a minimum resolution, and larger is usually accepted within the size limit.
  • State PSC (typical): photo 35×45 mm (276×354 px), 20–50 KB; signature 35×15 mm (276×118 px), 10–20 KB.

Each major exam also has its own page with the preset already selected: SSC, UPSC, NEET, JEE Main, CUET, IBPS, SBI, RRB and GATE.

How do I convert mm to pixels for an exam photo?

Divide the millimetres by 25.4 to get inches, then multiply by the DPI. For a 35×45 mm photo at 200 DPI:

  • Width: 35 ÷ 25.4 × 200 = 275.6, rounded to 276 px
  • Height: 45 ÷ 25.4 × 200 = 354.3, rounded to 354 px

You don't need to do this by hand. Switch the tool between Pixels and mm, type the notification's numbers and the DPI, and the line underneath shows the output size, for example "Output: 276×354 px, JPG, 20–50 KB".

How do I resize my exam photo and signature?

  1. Choose your exam in Exam / portal preset and read any note shown under it.
  2. Check Width, Height, DPI, Min KB and Max KB for the photo and the signature against your notification, and edit anything that differs.
  3. Leave Reach the minimum KB if the image is smaller ticked. It only matters when a clean image comes out below the minimum.
  4. Under Photo, click Upload your photo. Drag the photo, use the arrow keys or the zoom slider so your face sits inside the blue oval. Reset position undoes your changes.
  5. Under Signature, click Upload your signature. Move Paper cleanup until the paper is pure white and every stroke is still solid.
  6. Click Resize Photo & Signature. Both files download (named after the preset, such as ssc-photo.jpg and ssc-signature.jpg), and the result card shows each one's pixel size and KB.

You can also process just one of them: with only a photo added, the button reads Resize Photo.

What should the photo itself look like?

The tool fixes size and file weight, not the picture's content, so a few things are up to you. Most notifications ask for a recent colour photo, facing the camera, against a plain light background, with the face clearly visible. Check yours for rules on glasses, head coverings and how recent the photo must be.

Take it in daylight, facing a window, with someone else holding the phone at your eye level. Leave space above your head and around your shoulders so you can frame it in the tool. If the background behind you is cluttered, Remove Background can replace it with a plain colour before you resize.

How do I make my signature look clean?

Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, a little larger than you normally would, and photograph it flat in good light with no shadow from your hand or phone. In the tool, raise Paper cleanup if grey patches remain and lower it if thin strokes start to break up. The tool trims empty space and centres the signature in the required box.

The exam resizer renders the ink as solid near-black. If your form asks for blue ink, or you want to keep the original colour, use Signature Resizer, which offers Black, Blue or Original ink plus its own KB limits.

What if the form wants my name and date on the photo?

Some notifications ask for the candidate's name and the date the photo was taken printed below the face. Add Name and Date on Photo does this: type your Name and the Date of photograph (today's date is filled in as DD/MM/YYYY), then choose the layout.

It starts at 276×354 px with a 20–50 KB range and a band of 20% of the height. With Band inside the photo size, the final image stays 276×354 px: the photo fills the top 283 px and the white band takes the bottom 71 px. With Band added below, the full 276×354 px photo is kept and the band is added underneath, giving 276×425 px. Name in capitals is on by default. Click Add Name & Date to download.

What if the form wants the photo and signature in one image?

Use Merge Photo and Signature. It stacks the photo above the cleaned signature. The defaults are 300 px wide, a 360 px photo and a 120 px signature, so the merged image is 300×480 px, with a maximum of 100 KB. Change these to match your form and click Merge Photo & Signature.

Why was my exam photo rejected?

  • "Above the 50 KB limit even at the lowest quality." The exam resizer keeps the exact dimensions you set, so a very large size can't always fit a small limit. Check that the width and height match the notification.
  • "Below the 20 KB minimum." Tick Reach the minimum KB if the image is smaller and resize again. It adds an empty comment inside the JPEG; the picture is unchanged.
  • The face looks cut off. The photo is cropped to the required shape, never stretched. Zoom out and drag it in the preview.
  • The signature is faint or broken. Lower Paper cleanup, or photograph the signature again with a darker pen.
  • The photo came from an iPhone. HEIC files are accepted directly, so there is no need to convert them first.

Quick answers

What is the SSC photo size in pixels?

The SSC preset uses 35×45 mm at 200 DPI, which is 276×354 pixels, with a 20–50 KB range. Check the current SSC notification, as SSC may require a live photo taken in its own app.

What size is the NEET photo and signature?

The NTA preset (NEET, JEE Main, CUET) uses a 35×45 mm photo (276×354 px) of 10–200 KB and a 35×15 mm signature (276×118 px) of 4–30 KB. Confirm against the current NTA information bulletin before uploading.

What is the IBPS and SBI photo size?

Both presets use a 200×230 pixel photo of 20–50 KB and a 140×60 pixel signature of 10–20 KB. Check the official notification for your recruitment.

How do I fix "file size too small" on an exam portal?

Resize the image with Reach the minimum KB if the image is smaller ticked. The tool pads the JPEG with an empty comment so it meets the minimum while the picture stays the same.
