Change a PDF’s Title, Author, Subject and Keywords

View and change a PDF's title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer fields. Free, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

View and change the document properties stored in a PDF: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer. The fields are pre-filled with the file's current values, so you can see what it reveals before you share it.

Step by step

  1. Upload the PDF: Current values load into the form.
  2. Edit the fields: Change or clear any field. Separate keywords with commas.
  3. Save: Click Save Metadata. The modification date is set to now.
  4. Verify: Open the file's properties in your PDF reader, or scan it with Hidden Data Check.

Handy for

Remove personal names

Clear the Author field that your word processor filled in automatically.

Better search results

A meaningful Title appears in browser tabs and search engines.

Document management

Add keywords so files are easier to find later.

Consistent branding

Set your organisation as Author on published documents.

Good to know

  • Many PDFs also carry an XMP metadata block that can repeat the old values. Saving removes that block, so readers show the values you entered.

  • Blank fields are saved as empty values.

  • A clear Title helps screen-reader users and anyone with many tabs open.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the result is created on your device.

What are Creator and Producer?

Creator is usually the app that made the original document (e.g. a word processor); Producer is the software that wrote the PDF.

Does editing metadata change the content?

No, only the document properties change.

Can I change the creation date?

Not in this tool. The modification date is updated automatically when you save.
