3–5 seconds is a natural fade-out for a song; 0.2–0.5 s is enough to remove clicks.
Questions
What happens if the fades overlap?
If the fade-in and fade-out together are longer than the file, both are applied and the middle never reaches full volume. A notice tells you when that happens.
Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding, editing and encoding all happen inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards everything you haven't downloaded.
