Compress Image to 1 MB — Free, No Upload

Compress Image to 1 MB: make a photo fit an exact size limit such as 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB for online forms, with an optional minimum size too.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Many exam, job and government portals reject photos above a fixed size such as 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB — and some also reject files that are too small. Enter the limit and this tool finds the best quality that fits, shrinking the dimensions only if quality alone isn’t enough.

Step by step

  1. Add your photo: Upload one image, or several that need the same limit.
  2. Enter the maximum size: Type the limit in Maximum size (KB), for example 50.
  3. Add a minimum if required: If the portal says something like “between 10 KB and 20 KB”, enter 10 in Minimum size.
  4. Choose the format: JPG is accepted everywhere; WebP is smaller but not every portal takes it.
  5. Compress: Click Compress to … KB. Every file you get is at or under your limit; if one can’t get there, you’re told which.

Handy for

Good to know

  • Crop the photo first (e.g. with Crop Image) — fewer pixels means better quality at the same size.

  • Tick Keep the exact pixel dimensions when the portal also demands an exact width and height.

  • Portals usually also specify dimensions; check the official notice and resize with Resize Image if needed.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Every image is opened and processed inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards everything.

How does it pick the quality?

It tries a range of JPEG/WebP quality levels to find the highest one that still fits. If even a low quality is too big, it reduces the dimensions step by step.

It says it can’t reach my size — why?

With “Keep the exact pixel dimensions” ticked, a large image may not fit a tiny limit. Untick it so the image can be scaled down, or crop it first.

Can I hit a minimum size too?

Yes. If the result is below your minimum even at the highest quality, you’ll be told to start from a larger original.
