Compress Images Online — Reduce JPG, PNG & WebP File Size

Reduce the file size of JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC photos in bulk, with a quality slider and before/after sizes.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Make photos smaller for email, websites and uploads without sending them anywhere. Add one image or a whole batch, choose a quality level, and see exactly how much each file shrank.

For the biggest savings on large camera photos, also limit the longest side — a 4000-pixel photo resized to 1920 pixels is usually a fraction of the size. Need a hard limit like 100 KB? Use Compress Image to KB instead.

Step by step

  1. Add your images: Drop one or more photos onto the upload area, or click to browse.
  2. Pick a format: Keep Same as input, or switch to JPG or WebP — WebP is usually the smallest.
  3. Set the quality: Drag the Quality slider. 70–80% looks almost identical to the original for most photos.
  4. Optionally limit the size: Choose a maximum longest side such as 1920 px to shrink very large photos further.
  5. Compress: Click Compress Images. One image downloads directly; several come as a ZIP, with a before/after table.

Good to know

  • PNG is lossless, so on its own it can’t shrink much. Convert screenshots to WebP, or resize them.

  • If a compressed file would be larger than the original, the original is kept, so you never lose out.

  • Compressing an already-compressed JPG again saves little and slowly lowers quality — start from the original where you can.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Every image is opened and processed inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards everything.

Will the photo look worse?

At 70–85% quality most people can’t see a difference on screen. Lower settings show blockiness in skies and gradients; use the preview to judge.

Why did my PNG barely change?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so there is nothing to throw away. Switch the format to WebP or JPG, or limit the longest side.

Which image formats can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP, TIFF, SVG and iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos. Photoshop PSD files work when they were saved with a flattened preview ("Maximize compatibility").
