Compare Two Versions of a PDF and See What Changed

Show two versions side by side with added and removed words, or overlay pages to highlight changed pixels.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Upload an original and a revised PDF and see exactly what changed. Text diff shows each page side by side with added and removed words highlighted. Visual diff overlays the rendered pages and highlights changed pixels, catching layout, image and formatting changes that text alone would miss. A summary tells you how many pages changed, and you can download a PDF report.

Step by step

  1. Add both files: Upload the Original PDF and the Revised PDF.
  2. Compare: Click PDF Diff.
  3. Review: Switch between Text diff and Visual diff; tick Only changed pages to skip identical ones.
  4. Keep a record: Click Download report for a PDF summary of the changes.

Good to know

  • Text diff compares words, so reflowed paragraphs with the same wording show no changes — use Visual diff for layout checks.

  • Pages that exist in only one file are labelled.

  • Scanned PDFs have no text; compare them in Visual diff.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and the result is created on your device.

Do both files need the same number of pages?

No. Pages are compared in order, and extra pages are marked as only in the original or only in the revised file.

Does it catch formatting changes?

Visual diff does, because it compares the rendered pages.

Is the report a full copy of both documents?

No. It lists the changes page by page.
