Color Blind Test — Free Online Color Vision Screening

Color Blind Test: screen your colour vision with freshly generated dot plates and see how images look with colour blindness.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Screen your colour vision with 12 dot plates generated fresh each time, so they can’t be memorised. Two control plates check the test is working, eight probe red-green vision (protan and deutan) and two probe blue-yellow (tritan). A second tab, Simulate colour blindness, shows how any image looks to people with each type.

The plates are original, generated by this tool from published colour-science models (Machado et al., 2009) — they are not copies of any printed test.

Good to know

  • If you miss a control plate the result is marked invalid — fix screen settings and try again.

  • Phones on low brightness or in battery saver can make plates harder for everyone.

  • The simulator shows the strongest form of each type; most people with colour-vision deficiency have milder forms.

Questions

Is this a medical test?

No. It’s a screening tool. Screens and headphones aren’t calibrated medical equipment, so a professional (optometrist or audiologist) should confirm any concern.

How common is colour blindness?

Red-green deficiency affects roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women of Northern European ancestry, with similar or slightly lower rates in South Asia. Blue-yellow deficiency is rare.

Why does my result say “red-green” without a type?

You missed plates on both red-green axes. That’s common with milder deficiencies; an optometrist can classify it with an anomaloscope or clinical plates.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The test runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored online.
