Refresh Rate Test — What Hz Is My Monitor?

Measure your display's refresh rate, frame-time stability and dropped frames, with a side-by-side motion test.

Free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Measure the refresh rate your display is actually running at, from the timing of the browser’s animation frames. See the frame time, jitter, late frames and a distribution chart, plus a motion test comparing smoothness at your full rate, half and quarter.

Step by step

  1. Open the page: Measuring starts automatically; the Hz value settles within a second or two.
  2. Read the stats: Check Frame time, Jitter and Late frames below the result.
  3. Watch the motion test: Compare the three moving shapes and adjust Speed to see the difference.
  4. Pause if needed: Use Pause measuring to freeze the numbers.

Handy for

New high-refresh monitor

Confirm 120/144/165 Hz is really enabled.

Laptops

Check whether battery mode drops you to 60 Hz.

Troubleshooting stutter

High jitter or many late frames point to background load.

Good to know

  • If a high-refresh monitor reads 60 Hz, set the rate in your OS display settings and use a DisplayPort or recent HDMI cable.

  • Close heavy apps and tabs for steadier numbers.

  • Variable-refresh displays may vary the rate with content.

Questions

How accurate is it?

Browsers draw once per display refresh, so the median frame time gives the rate closely (usually within 1%). Results snap to a standard rate when they’re within 3% of one.

Why does it change when I switch tabs?

Browsers pause animations in background tabs; the test ignores those gaps.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The test runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored online.
