How to Turn Phone Photos and Scans into One PDF
To combine photos into one PDF, open JPG & Photos to PDF, add the images, drag them into order, choose A4, Letter or Fit to image, and click Convert to PDF. If you are photographing paper documents, Scan Paper to PDF is the better choice: it finds the page edges, straightens each page and cleans up the paper. Both run in your browser, so the photos stay on your phone or computer.
Which tool should I use?
- Photos of paper (forms, receipts, notes, certificates): Scan Paper to PDF. It crops away the table, corrects the angle and brightens the page.
- Images that are already clean (screenshots, cropped scans, designs): JPG & Photos to PDF. JPG and PNG files go in exactly as they are.
- A PDF that must stay under a size limit for a job portal, exam form or KYC upload: Image to PDF Under KB. You choose the limit and it compresses each photo just enough to fit.
How do I scan a document with my phone camera?
- Open Scan Paper to PDF. Click Use camera, allow camera access, and press Capture page for each page. You can also upload photos you have already taken; each becomes a page.
- Check the outline. Edges are detected automatically, and the page says whether they were found. If the outline is wrong, drag the corner handles onto the corners of the paper, or click Auto-detect to try again.
- Pick a filter for each page: Enhanced (the default, which evens out colour casts and brightens the paper), Original, Greyscale or B & W.
- Use the rotate buttons, the up and down arrows and Delete to fix orientation and order and drop retakes.
- Set Page size (A4, Letter or Fit), Quality and File name.
- Click Create PDF.
Getting edge detection to work first time:
- Put the paper on a darker, plain surface. Edges are found where the page stands out from its surroundings; white paper on a white desk is the hardest case.
- Hold the phone parallel to the page and keep all four corners in view.
- Use daylight or a bright room, and keep your own shadow off the page.
- If the browser will not open the camera, take the photos with your normal camera app and upload them instead. Camera access needs your permission and a secure (HTTPS) connection.
The Quality slider runs from 40% to 95% (default 82%) and sets the JPEG quality of every page. With A4 or Letter, each page is scaled to fill the sheet and turned to landscape when the scan is wider than it is tall. Fit makes each page the size of the scan at 200 DPI. B & W usually gives the smallest file for text documents.
How do I combine existing photos into one PDF?
- Open JPG & Photos to PDF and drop your images onto Upload Images. JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF are accepted, and you can add more at any time.
- Drag the files into order, or use the arrows. Remove any with ×. The top image becomes page 1.
- Choose Page size: A4, Letter or Fit to image.
- For A4 and Letter, set the Margin slider anywhere from 0 to 72 points. 72 points is one inch (about 25 mm); the default of 20 pt is about 7 mm.
- Click Convert to PDF.
How your images are treated:
- JPG and PNG files are embedded byte for byte, with no quality loss. Phone photos that rely on a rotation flag are turned upright first and re-saved at high quality.
- iPhone HEIC photos become high-quality JPEGs; WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF become PNG.
- The sheet turns to landscape automatically for landscape images.
- Images are never enlarged, so a small image sits small in the middle of the page instead of turning blurry.
- Fit to image treats pixels as 96 DPI, so a 4000-pixel-wide photo makes a page about 106 cm wide. Choose A4 or Letter if anyone will print it.
How do I keep the PDF under 100 KB or 200 KB?
Phone photos are often several megabytes each, so a PDF of four of them can easily run past 10 MB. There are two ways to get it small.
Build it small from the start with Image to PDF Under KB:
- Add the images and drag them into order.
- Under Maximum PDF size, pick 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB, or type a figure into Or enter a size in KB (20 KB minimum).
- Choose the page size and Margin (pt).
- Click Create PDF Under …. The message shows the final size.
The size budget is shared between pages in proportion to each image's pixel area, and the tool tightens and retries until the PDF fits. There are shortcut pages for JPG to PDF under 100 KB and under 200 KB.
Shrink a PDF you already have with Compress PDF and a target size, or a preset page such as Compress PDF to 200 KB.
Be realistic about the limit. 200 KB for two pages, such as the front and back of an Aadhaar card, is plenty. 100 KB for eight pages of small print is not. If the limit cannot be reached, the tool still downloads its best attempt and tells you the size it managed; use fewer pages, B & W scans or a larger limit.
Getting order, page size and margins right
- Order: check the list before converting. Fixing order afterwards means another trip through Reorder PDF Pages.
- Page size: A4 is the standard paper size in India and most countries; Letter is the US size. Portals rarely mind, but printers do.
- Margins: 0 lets images run to the edge of the page; around 20 pt looks like a normal printed page and stops printers clipping the edge.
- Mixed portrait and landscape: all three tools turn the sheet to suit each image, so a wide receipt does not shrink into a thin strip.
- One page sideways: fix it in the finished file with Rotate PDF Pages.
Troubleshooting
- Edges were not found. The paper blended into the surface. Drag the corners yourself, or reshoot on a darker background.
- The camera will not open. Allow camera permission in the browser's site settings, or upload photos instead.
- Text looks grey and faint. Try B & W or Enhanced, and raise Quality.
- One image fails. The error message names the file. Open it, save it again as a JPG and add it back.
- The PDF is too big. Use Image to PDF Under KB, or compress the finished file.
- You need to search or copy the text. A scan is a set of pictures. Run the PDF through OCR to add a text layer.
